Product Questions
What’s the difference between each type of soap bar?
Great question! We currently have three types of soap bars available which use extra virgin olive oil, virgin coconut oil, or a mix of both. Check out each product description in our Shop!
How do I store my soap bars?
We recommend storing your soap bars in a way that allows them to dry out thoroughly between each use. Try out different soap dishes, soap saver bags (or a combination of both!) to find what works best for you.
Why did I receive two soap bars instead of one?
Due to the variable nature of handmade soap, we do occasionally send out extra soap bars to our customers to make up for any weight differences after a soap bar cures. It’s part of the beauty of handmade soap and means that no soap bar goes to waste!
How long does a soap bar last?
Basically, the less your soap bar is in contact with water (during both usage and storage), the longer it will last. Based on our testing, our soap bars can last anywhere between 3 to 5 weeks depending on personal usage. Those of us who like to directly rub the soap bar all over in the shower do tend to use up soap the quickest, whilst those who massage a wet loofah onto a soap bar and then apply the lather to our bodies keeps the soap bar going the longest as the soap stays out of regular contact with running water.
I've been using my soap bar for a while and I'm noticing some fine lines/cracks appearing on the surface. Why does this happen?
Cracks can happen due to a variety of factors and add a purely aesthetic dimension to your soap bar without affecting its function or use. As your soap bar repeatedly gets wet from use and then dries in between uses, it is exposed to a wide range of changes in temperature and humidity. These changes mean that the surface of your soap bar is constantly expanding and contracting as it interacts with water, which can ultimately lead to cracks appearing.
From our own experimentation, we've noticed that soap bars made with harder oils such as coconut oil, tend to be more affected by cracking from general use when exposed to repeated changes in moisture and temperature. This does not mean your soap is 'bad' or faulty; cracks are simply a cosmetic issue and is a normal part of the soap bar lifecycle which affects both handmade and commercial soaps alike.
Shipping + Returns
Which countries do you ship to?
We currently ship within Australia only. This is a conscious decision to both limit our carbon footprint and reduce emissions. We understand that this may be disappointing for our international fans but would like to take the opportunity to strongly encourage you to support your local artisan soapmakers who uphold similar values.
Do you offer express delivery?
We do not offer express delivery. We’ve consciously decided to offer only standard delivery via carbon-neutral carriers to avoid the heavier environmental costs and emissions generated through express delivery.
Do you offer free delivery?
As a Thank You to our big supporters, we offer free standard shipping within Australia for orders over $75 (including tracking and carbon-neutral delivery).
How is my shipping carbon offset?
We choose carbon offset each order by 200% through Sendle’s 100% Carbon Neutral Delivery and additional 100% offsetting through our collaboration with Greenfleet Australia.
Do you accept returns?
Due to the nature of soap bar products, we are unable to accept returns due to change of mind (see our Refund Policy).
Please contact us if you have any questions and we will do our best to resolve any issues.
How long will my order take to arrive?
PROCESSING: Please allow between 1-5 business days for your order to be processed and made ready for shipping (as a soapmaker living with disabilities, I deeply appreciate your patience and support).
DELIVERY: Once your order is received by Sendle, parcels can generally take between 2-10 business days. Please note that the COVID-19 pandemic, extreme weather conditions and busy holidays periods can cause shipping delays. Please visit Sendle for up-to-date information on delays/delivery times.
End-of-Life
How do I use up the small leftover pieces of soap?
Please use up every last bit of your soap bar! We are fans of using soap saver bags or saving a few small soap pieces to press together into a bigger piece.
Tip: Small pieces are also handy for travel!
How do I dispose of the packaging?
We deliberately designed all our packaging to be completely plastic-free, kerbside recyclable and home compostable – This includes in your worm farm too!
MAILER: The paper mailer can also be reused – Just carefully open your parcel from one end and tape up the opening for the next time you need to post an item.
WRAPPER: The product wrapper is made of 100% recycled paper and is also home compostable and kerbside-recyclable.
Please keep all packaging out of landfill by either reusing, recycling or composting!

Why doesn’t The Soap Standard participate in sales?
We don’t do sales at The Soap Standard. Our prices are the same all year-round because we’ve made the deliberate choice to sell online directly to you with no hidden tactics. Sales often encourage mindless consumerism by creating a false urgency and poor decision making. We believe that making a difference must be a conscious choice and one made only after careful consideration. It also helps that we charge a fair price and produce in micro batches rather than putting profit over planet and people.
To make a difference here at The Soap Standard, we want you to buy our soap bars after you’ve read about what we stand for and why we do things the way we do, or not at all.
